The Gerdau Group began its operations in Canada in 1989, with Courtice Steel in Ontario. In 1995, it acquired MRM Steel in Manitoba, a unit dedicated to the production of special steel profiles that completed 95 years of operation in 2001. The two mills have a total capacity of 660,000 metric tons per year, and service the Canadian and U.S. markets.
Gerdau also has stockholdings in Bradley Steel, which processes superlight
I-beams for the transportation industry, and in the elevator guide rail manufacturer Monteferro America, both located in Manitoba.
