Largest producer of long steel in the Americas

The Gerdau Group is the largest producer of long steel in the Americas, with steel mills in Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Chile, the United States and Uruguay.
Gerdau has been part of Brazil's economic development for 101 years, growing out of the Pontas de Paris Nail Factory in Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul. In the 1980s, Gerdau began its expansion into other countries in North and South America, and now has an installed capacity of 11 million metric tons of steel per year.
Within this history of growth, Gerdau has consolidated a corporate culture based on ethical values, respect for all its publics, and the desire for balance between growth and profitability. It invests in the professional development of its 16,000 employees, in the preservation of the environment, and in the development of the communities where it operates.
The Company recycles 5.3 million metric tons of steel scrap per year, guided by principles of environmental efficiency and sustainable development. Scrap, the most important raw material used in around 65% of Gerdau's production, is transformed into steel products for the civil construction, industrial, agricultural and automotive sectors.
Gerdau steel is employed in large infrastructure projects, housing, buildings, schools, hospitals, automotive parts, truck bodies, agricultural machinery, domestic appliances and fencing.
The Group has two publicly listed companies: Gerdau S.A. and the holding company Metalúrgica Gerdau S.A., both of which are traded in the São Paulo Stock Exchange. Since 1999, Gerdau ADRs have been traded in the world's largest financial market, the New York Stock Exchange.
