ARGENTINA, CHILE AND
URUGUAY
Performance
The units in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay sold a total of
351,800 metric tons of steel products, which represents 3.8%
of the consolidated total. The region's sales performance
suffered a 6.4% reduction, resulting from the recession in
the Argentinean and Uruguayan economies.
The
Chilean operations, however, increased sales by 12.2%, due
primarily to investments in infrastructure, such as the realization
of works on the Costanera Norte and Autopista Central motorways,
the expansion of the Santiago subway, and the La Farfana water
treatment plant, one of the largest in Latin America.
Strategy
The units in each country have independent commercial areas,
organized to meet the specific needs of the markets in which
they are located.
