The Gerdau Group's commitment to preserving the environment is reflected in its continuous search for higher levels of environmental efficiency.

In 2003, we implemented a new integrated management model based on the most modern environmental protection practices. This system will enable us to elaborate a detailed on-line environmental impact analysis during each stage of the production process, strengthening current management techniques.

During the year, R$ 50 million were invested in technological upgrades for our equipment and in environmental education programs for the community and employees, representing an increase of 32% in relation to the previous year.
