The Gerdau Group’s sustainability is found not only in its business management, in the efficiency of its employees and in its protection of the environment. It also extends beyond the walls of its units, because business success walks hand-in-hand with the development of communities. It is for this reason that the Gerdau Group supports community initiatives in all of the countries where it operates. They are projects focused primarily on encouraging the diffusion of knowledge, which in turn maximizes the transforming capacity of people and generates an environment of growth near Gerdau Group operations.
Gerdau also invests so that the projects can become self-sustainable, or in other words, find ways of continuing their own actions, both financially and in terms of their management capacity. They are initiatives that do not only contribute to improving the quality of life of people, but also to forming citizens who are conscious of their social role and committed to the construction of an increasingly better country.
The social investments in Brazil are coordinated and operated by the Gerdau Institute. In 2007, the volume of resources reached R$ 72,7 million.
