that live near the mills, is a focus of Diaco in Colombia. Evidence of this is the Integrated
Development Program for Women and Families, which helps employees’ wives and children and
women in the community.
They are trained in setting up very small businesses, thereby having the opportunity of
generating income. One of the highlights of the initiative is the launching of the first
cooperative resulting from the program – Coopasumerce –, which sells handicrafts. The
project, developed at the Tuta and Duitama units, involved 85 people in 2005. |
