ver 8,000 metric tons of Gerdau fabricated GG 50 rebar were used in the construction of a wind farm in the town of Osório, state of Rio Grande do Sul – the biggest wind farm in Latin America and one of the largest in the world. The venture comprises a R$ 670 million complex generating 150 MW of energy at full capacity – enough to supply the homes of 650,000 people.
Construction, which begun in July 2005 and is due for completion in 2007, has already generated around 800 direct and 5,000 indirect jobs.
The same fabricated GG 50 rebar is also being used in another major wind farm project in the city of Rio do Fogo, state of Rio Grande do Norte. With operations planned to start in 2007, the farm has 62 turbines that can generate 49.3 MW of energy. Approximately 4,000 metric tons of rebar are being used in the construction. |
