he Gerdau products are contributing to the improvement of public transport in South America’s largest city. The São Paulo subway Line 2 expansion and Line 4 construction projects are using GG 50 rebar produced by Gerdau. Altogether, the two projects will require 40,000 metric tons of steel. Gerdau products are also being used in the Radial Leste extension, one of São Paulo’s main avenues. In all, 7,000 metric tons of GG 50 will be used in the construction of the tunnel and access ways by July 2006.

The Line 2 expansion project should be complete by the second half of 2006. It is forecast that some 860,000 new users per day will benefit from the project.

Line 4 will run approximately eight miles. The first stage of the project is scheduled for completion in 2008 with six stations, as well as a maneuvering and maintenance yard for the trains in Vila Sônia.

The second phase of the construction includes five more stations. Line 4 is already considered as São Paulo subway’s most important, since it will connect the entire subway transportation network, linking the downtown area with the rest of the metropolitan region.
